Downgrading in Size. Upgrading in Value.
As a new generation either graduate from school and begin looking for a place to call home or other generations start to think differently about the homes they have, more and more individuals are considering moving into smaller houses rather than larger homes. With this down grade in size, many consider it to be an upgrade in the quality of living as they begin consuming less energy, spend much less time indoors, and typically have the ability to move these tiny home wherever they please almost at a moment's notice. Living in a home not much bigger (if not smaller) than a typical shed, these homeowners will report that they use the most of every square foot like they never have before. In this documentary about a late-twenty/early-thirty something year old, the audience is invited to experience what life is like in building their own home as well as living in a space the size of some walk-in closets. To find out more about this project and the tiny house movement, check out http://www.tiny-themovie.com/. Forget the Man Cave. How About a Man Shed?
We've all heard about the famous man caves; the one room of the house that is off limits to anyone besides the man of the house and his buddies. Well, where space is limited and utility is everything, one British man has fully utilized every square foot of man-dom in his man shed. Very into tech gadgetry, Alan Cook has transformed a 9x6 shed into a place of escape from the world; a true techie's wonderland. Along with a big screen TV and multiple gaming consoles, the shed is home to exercise equipment, a compact stereo system, his computer, and fridge stocked with beer.
How does Alan's wife feel about the man-shed? According to Wired Magazine's Gadget Lab, she says:
"I never see him anymore. But at least I get to watch what I want in the living room." Aw, how tender.
What do you get for the man that has everything? A shed to put it all in! For some of the finest sheds, pole-barns, and other exterior buildings, visit the official website of Tulsa's own Better Built Structures.

Above The Rest: The Very Best Tree Houses
For generations, children have enjoyed having an escape in their own backyards in the form of an external building. Though makeshift playhouses and forts are a fond memory for many when they think back upon their childhood, no such structure holds such memories as a tree house. From their construction to their years of enjoyment, tree houses hold a special spot in the heart's of many individuals as a place they could escape the world from and enjoy the sanctuary nestled in the tree tops. For many men, some of their first experiences with carpentry and handiness in general started with the construction of their first tree house. For many women, their first memories of home-making began with tree-top tea parties with friends; both real an imaginary. Though most individuals leave their tree houses behind as soon they grow out of them, others don't let the dream die that easy and build tree houses that fit them well into adulthood. In this post from Update Home, we take a look at some of the most amazing tree houses designed to please the inner child.
